Act 1, scene 1.
Helena

Helena is a young physician's daughter in the court of a French Countess. In this first scene the household bids farewell to the Countess' son, Bertram, who departs for the court of the French King. Helena cries throughout the scene, which the others atttribute to the recent death of her father. However, in this soliloquy she reveals that she weeps instead for Bertram, who she is in love with. Unable to reveal her love because of the difference in their station and his impending departure, she is left desperate and frustrated.
