The first programme looks at shopkeeper Tom Clarke, who many believe to have been the brains behind the 1916 Easter Rising. A prominent Fenian, Clarke was jailed for 15 years for his part in a failed bombing campaign in England, after being the first person to sign the Proclamation, and was executed in on May 3 1916 for his part in the Rising
