Designer Tadashi Shoji took a walk in a moonlit Moorish palace for his fall 2014 runway show on Thursday (February 6), the first day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. The Japanese-born American fashion designer showed sensual gowns in rich velvets and suede. When asked what his inspiration was for this season's collection, Shoji said: "Mystery of (a) Moorish night." Shoji told Reuters that he travelled to different places many years ago, and recalled the architecture and textiles of the cultures that really left an impression on him. The designer opted for a strong colour palette with reds, greens and blues to stay true to theme. Shoji, who was born in Japan and studied design in the United States, is based in Los Angeles. He launched his own label in 1982. Since then, he has built up a global clientele of women who need gowns for galas and weddings - and celebrities who must dazzle on the red carpet.
