Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday (February 26) praised Arizona Governor Jan Brewer's decision to veto a controversial bill that critics have called anti-gay and discriminatory.
She credited Brewer with "recognizing that inclusive leadership is really what the 21rst century is all about," told students and faculty during a visit to the University of Miami.
The measure, passed by the Republican-controlled state legislature last week, would have allowed business owners to cite personal religious beliefs as legal grounds for refusing to serve same-sex couples or any other prospective customers. But a number of major business organizations and some fellow Republican politicians had urged Brewer to veto the bill.
Clinton was also about her own political ambitions albeit indirectly.
