I went to church last Sunday
And sat among the few,
Who came to ease their massive load
Of burdens and renew
The inner faith we ever need.
I saw an empty pew.
I sat among the sinners,
The worshippers of gold,
The young, who beamed forth arrogance
And wise, but humble old.
We joined again within God's house,
His purpose to behold.
We heard the strong-voiced parson
Spell out God's love, so clear.
When we sent out our songs of praise,
A calm pervading cheer
Swept through our hearts, to warm our souls
And drew us very near.
We had so much in common,
By sharing in God's plan;
For weak or strong, we still must use
His ever helping hand,
To guide us through the heights and depths,
Of life's confusing span.
If you would ease your burdens,
What better could you do
Then lay them on God's doorstep?
Please, come and start anew
In church this Sunday morning.
There waits an empty pew.
