Surprise Me!

Peter Wilder - On The Beach

Another day is passing by my window
With painted hues of red beneath the clouds
And distant sounds of thunder growing louder
Bringing rain across the bay in silver shrouds

Slowly as the sky begins to darken
The lights are going on across the land
And rain arrives in torrents like a tyrant
To wash away your footprints in the sand

And it's funny how it seems
When you think you've lost your dreams
And the memories are all that you can reach
Because no matter how I try
Every time I say good-bye
I'm reminded of that summer on the beach

In days to come I'll listen for your footsteps
Expect in every crowd to see you face
I'll lay awake and hear your soft voice whisper
Then vanish in the wind without a trace

I look up to the stars we watched together
And stay until I see the first star fall
I make a wish and then return in silence
To sit beside the phone until you call

And it's funny how it seems
When you think you've lost your dreams
And the memories are all that you can reach
Because no matter how I try
Every time I say good-bye
I'm reminded of that summer on the beach
