I may appear to be fit and strong
but that impression is completely wrong.
My grip on life is becoming less each day
and I can’t hold things in the normal way.
If I need to pee I have to go straight a way
where once I could hold it for hours each day.
I also cannot concentrate like I used to do
and a thought only lasts for a moment or two.
I once held dear the memories of my childhood days,
but now I can’t even remember what I was about to say.
At one time I could hold my breath for a very long time,
now I’d be lucky if I could hold it for a count of nine.
There’s another thing I can’t hold my alcohol like I used to do,
what I don’t spill goes to my head, or straight down the loo.
But I have found something I can hold for twice as long,
besides the obvious, it’s the new found ability to hold my tongue.
