and I'd have nodded, smiling
adoringly
even as you slipped those pink
shoes on, turned and hit the asphalt
on a dead sprint to Boulder
without so much as a yelp to
hold you
back
I suppose it's time to break
out my own two shoes
and walk off this dull heartache—
less poignant all of a sudden with the
realization that
you left ages ago
