When I was a child, I thought paper was the most wonderful thing. When we played store, candy was a penny but paper? A thousand dollars!
When I was a child, I dreamed of the day I could read. My first day of school I returned home vowing never to return. My Mother had said I would learn to read if I went, so I had, ALL DAY!
When I was a child, I was mostly unsupervised, running wild. There were times that terrible things happened to me. What I remember most is roaming the neighborhood with a dog bigger than me, feeling safe that day. We went into a chicken coop, the dog barking, me throwing cans. It seemed the chickens would die of fright, but my cans got them up and running again.
When I was a child, I would try to take my shoes off before I went out. I did not want them to get dirty.
Most of my memories of, when I was a child are repressed, but these few I hold dear. At 5 years of age my Mother made me promise to take care of her forever, so I quit being a child and became my Mother's care giver.
