She spoke of love
but her words were empty
her eyes were dull
her voice cracked.
She spoke of love
like it had slapped her in the face
and left her trapped in the Sahara heat,
she sank her head towards her feet.
She clenched my hands tight
tears filled her eyes
her mother had died.
Her mother died before she learned to love,
before they reconciled,
before they forgave and forgot
her mother died.
She left her mother at sixteen
left her home, her family.
She never went back, only ahead
only to realize her mother was dead! !
She never forgave! !
