`Tis given not to everyone
Who walks along life's road.
And though I've waited all my life
It's never been bestowed.
For it's a gift not meant for me.
Its sender knows me not.
It bears a tag without my name -
This gift I've always sought.
And so I fear that I shall not
Its ribbon e'er untie.
Yet it's a gift I want so much
It almost makes me cry.
So I'll not end my quest for it.
For life without this gift
Is just a lonesome wait for Death
To help the burden lift.
