Withdrawn, scared, and lying still
Wondering aloud and staring
Screaming inside at the blood all around
And without cold just shivering
Knowing, waiting, and watching it end
This story in her mind playing
Wishing inside that she could leave
But lead in her legs means she’s staying
Speechless, shocked, now she’s sitting
Watching out for the return of it
Gathering her courage from deep within
To move closer to the exit
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
She hopes, she prays, she cries in silence
She drags herself until she’s standing
She hopes, she prays, she’s having faith
She walks, and walks and then she’s running
She runs and runs and runs and runs
She does not care that she is bleeding
She flees that scene that she knew would come
She flees the death of ignorance she’s seeing
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Shaking, crying, sitting there
Trying to talk but no words come
Screaming at the death inside her head
Wanting to say this but she is dumb
Knowing, feeling, but clueless they were
Of the danger that was fast approaching
Wishing with all her heart that she could warn them
But knowing that their naivety would always win
