We older folks all take more time
To keep things in you know;
I try sometimes to think in rhymes
Which helps me as I go.
Long times past now I didn't need
A note-pad or reminder,
I bounced along recalling all,
And always played a blinder.
At school they use to knock us
Into shape with daily rotes,
Times-tables and the like, plus
Words of wisdom via quotes;
Of which I still remember most,
And thankful I am too,
And wonder where on earth I'd be...
At least I think I do!
Yes, older people take more time
To sort things in their head,
I often think we've learned so much
It's killed the brain stone dead.
And now when I tie laces
Upon my shoes so brown,
I wonder is there anything else
I can do while I'm bent down.
