A son of soil, an Indian,
Had made resolve, Himalayan,
To free his country, Motherland,
And fellowmen, from British hand.
He chose a non-violent path;
Yet, there was some kind of blood-bath;
But in the end, he won the game,
And achieved immense name and fame.
He was called ‘Father of India’;
His name was Karamchand Gandhi;
His sacrifice was simply great;
An assassin then shot him straight!
He got the freedom for his land;
He toiled and had no magic wand;
He wanted all to stay as friends;
His struggle paid rich dividends.
It took a hundred years to end,
To free the land from the fiend;
The barrister Gandhiji won;
He was Bharat’s most priceless son!
His birthday is a divine day;
He showed the world a unique way;
His spirit lives in country-men;
His glory was too great to pen!
