A dog is for life, is what I was taught,
But some people give this not a moment's thought.
To them dog's are merely toys.
Something to amuse little girls and boys.
Amuse them they will, 'til the novelty wears thin.
Then they're abandoned. What a sin!
Left all alone, frightened and lost.
Their love betrayed. Double crossed!
The love these dogs give just isn't returned.
They're viewed a nuisance, easily spurned.
These owners can't see, they don't understand.
They're in control, they have the whip hand.
Every child should have a pet of some kind.
It nurtures responsibility, broadens the mind.
It teaches them love, loyalty and trust.
The imporatnce of caring, how to adjust.
To some in our midst it's all but a game.
They'll cast away a dumb creature, without any shame.
Why should they worry? Why should they fret?
They take love, they use love and then they forget.
