What makes a man
A mahatma
The noble soul
You showed
By your discipline
And your actions.
Your belief
In freedom of man
Your peaceful fight
For equal rights
Spread across
Continents wide apart.
Silently you led
People of all races
Nonviolence you insisted
Communicating to the masses
The power of your call
For total self-reliance
'Make cloth you wear'
'Make salt you need'
Resounded thru decades
Made oppressors to yield.
You strictly practiced
Whatever you preached
Your insistence on truth
And passive resistance
Known as satyagraha
Is well known all over.
Dear Bapu
We adore you
You created
Many great leaders
And many more stalwarts
Followed your path
To spread freedom
Across this world.
