Samantha Turlington - A Teacher Speaks To Her Students

I

Fill the world twice over
With sounds that from ye ring
Let sweet music in our veins flow
As we lift our voice to sing

Words wrought to me ere late morning
Fallen from lips full of caring
Molded in my mind for saving
Written upon my heart for sharing

Joined as one solid soul
Ringing loud throughout the hall
Brought together by the power
Came to see us one and all

II

A fog upon this meadow sets
In such disguise, very few can see
Tainting the lovely leaves so green
Evoking silence dismally

Poison to young branches are
Words of hate and scorn and fear
Toxic to the pride and beauty
Whispered in their tender ear

Awake! Awake! For silent death
Sure to follow you in sleep there
Oh please! Oh please! My little ones
The dangers are everywhere!

For this brings you no comfort
The vine and fog wish not
Inside your souls lay the harmony
Let not these demons be forgot

III

My duty and my honor inside
The life that is not mine alone
Music calls me to sing a song
Lead the little ones to their home

Greed with Jealousy breeds
Sores of nervousness and fears
With love NOT evil shall I go
And rid my children from their tears

Make ready the stage!
Stand clear the gates!
Let me bring the young ones
To stand before their fates

IV

Yes, my dears, you have won
You have up and flown
Came past the evils of this trade
With glory, brightly shown

I now to my grave can go
My job here is done, you see?
Happy and full, my heart and soul
Please, my loves, remember me
