Remembering as a young child… many years ago
Lying awake... hopeful in my warm cozy bed
Listening to the quiet of the falling snow
Hearing soft footsteps…not a word was said
Peering through nearly closed lids… very still
Shadows visible … grasping sight intermittently
Hearing presents sliding with wishes to fulfill
Beneath the pine scented boughs… very faintly
With a quiver of excitement…I pretended
To slumber has the footsteps made their way
To my parent’s bedroom…where the sound ended
Not the rooftop…to an awaiting bell strung sleigh
