Sadie sits
atop the breakfast table
spread-eagled in her favorite square of sun.
Sadie sits
stand-offish by the door,
when strangers seek to pat her tortoiseshell.
Sadie sits
a-snoozing on the couch,
her fierce white whiskers twitching in her dreams.
Sadie sits
discretely on your lap
her purring motor soothes your grumpiness.
Sadie sits
behind me on this chair
she’s taking up more than half my buttock space -
but I haven’t the heart to kick her off!
