Before the golfers come
eight to five
to walk the greens,
and encroach upon the quiet
ownership of wildlife,
the dark snout of a water moccasin
breaks the pond's reflection of dawn -
a patchwork of nimbus and sky -
with a concentry of ripples
as it cruises its turf in zig-zags
from shore to shore.
