(The poem is dedicated to Dr.Subhendu Kar, the great poet, who in a way has been my mentor, as he constantly inspires me to write.I am deeply indebted to him for his valued suggestion and the theme of the poem has been an offshoot of his poem Curve of Meaning) .
Like 'Crest' and 'Trough'
of an alternating current
or a sound wave,
the rise and fall of
dreams and the reality
take alterations
but sometimes with some aberrations.
The dream takes an exponential rise
and takes a downturn
as reality stretches its stark hand
to wilt the soft petals of dream,
to conquer and leave a sound imprint.
But again if only reality reigns
doesn't the world become
bereft of
peals of laughter, chaste values, ingress of emotions
and indomitable passion?
Poets, painters, musicians
build on their dreams,
inscribe their imageries
into the hard copies of the realities.
But the scientist who relies
only on facts and figures
is supposed to be the most down- to- earth,
leaving their dreams aside, can not lead to
discoveries and inventions.
Hadn't Kekule dreamt while dozing
Benzene ring would not have been unearthed,
Daydreamers Einstein, Madam Curie and Newton
would not have given birth to
' Relativity', ' Radium' and ' Gravitation'
but for their self engrossment.
Our deep plunge into the dreams
gets shaken by the magic wand
of realities
and realities when stagnate
get rejuvenated by an upsurge of dreams
so both have to coexist
since one makes the other a complementary.
(N.B. A few scientific terms have been used.Alternating current (A.C.)
and sound follow the same wave pattern. The topmost peak of the wave is called crest and the bottommost is trough) .
