a congealed bit of sunshine
is wrapped in the deep roots of a lily
a thousand children played right overhead,
in the day of your beginning:
racing to the water,
running from the waves
or dancing in the wind.
A concealed bit of sunshine,
as if you were hidden on purpose,
by design, you sleep in the dark
and a single flower is the X to mark your place
One day, the father will find you,
but carry home to his wife only the single stem
of a purple lily.
Values emulsify, solidify as he leaves you,
glittering diamond,
in the steady light of the sun.
