I worked in a factory
So my child could go to school
To learn to be an office worker,
So her child could go to school
To learn to be a poet,
One who would see
The beauty of the life
Of a factory worker.
I tilled a garden
And grew all our food
So my child could grow,
And afford canned goods,
So her child could become
A writer,
One who could tell of the joy
Of tilling a garden.
I sewed with care
To clothe my child
So she could grow up
To buy ready made clothes,
So her child could become
A weaver of cloth,
And a weaver of tales
Of the life of a seamstress.
I wrote late at night,
When my work was all done,
So my child could afford to buy books in stores,
And her child had time
To become a dreamer of dreams,
A writer like me.
Life has come full circle,
So the grandmother is now the child,
And the child is now the mother,
And the grandchild is - - -
A dreamer of dreams,
A teller of tales.
