As Pope Francis greeted new ambassadors at the Vatican Thursday...he celebrated news that the U.S. and Cuba are restoring diplomatic relations.
(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) POPE FRANCIS SAYING:
"Today we are all happy, because we have seen how how two nations who were separated for many years, yesterday took a step closer to each other. You see this was brought about by ambassadors, by diplomacy. Your work is a noble one, very noble."
On Wednesday, the Vatican confirmed that its diplomats had facilitated talks between the U.S. and Cuba...
and promised more support for the initiative.
