Venezuelans marked the 57th anniversary of the overthrow of the Marco Perez Jimenez dictatorship by a popular movement that aimed to establish democracy. Although a two party system beholden to Washington was subsequently established, the date is still celebrated as a victory of a popular movement against an authoritarian regime.
