It’s one of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s most ambitious projects: to create new Silk Roads between Europe and China, more than 1 000 years after merchants’ caravans first brought precious Asian crafts westward. Authorities have already invested 40 billion dollars since the beginning of the year, in order to build roads, bridges, train tracks and other infrastructure.
