Leos Janacek is the foremost composer of 20th Century in the Czech Republic. Initially an organ teacher and a respected folk music researcher, Janacek turned into composition only late in life. His first works date from the 1880’s, after he took serious compositional classes at the prestigious Leipzig Conservatory, acquiring enormous respect during the first decades of the 20th Century, especially strengthening Czech opera repertoire. In spite Janacek considered himself an agnostic indifferent to religion, much alike the Czech people, he wrote significant works on religious themes, such as his massive Glagolitic Mass, but also smaller works such as his cantata The Eternal Gospel of 1914. Here, Janacek set a poem of Vrlichlícky over a commentary of the Book of Revelation by Medieval mystic Joachim de Fiore, who saw himself the Angel of Revelation predicating the Eternal Gospel of Love.
Leos Janacek es el compositor más reconocido del siglo 20 en la República Checa. Incialmente un maestro de órgano y un respetado investigador de música folclórica, fue hasta tarde en su vida que decidió ser compositor. Sus primeras obras datan de la década de 1880, tras haber tomado un curso de composición formal en el prestigioso Conservatorio de Leipzig, adquiriendo enorme respeto durante las primeras décadas del siglo 20, especialmente al fortalecer el repertorio de la ópera checa. A pesar de que Janacek se consideraba a sí mismo cono un agnóstico indiferente a la religión, como gran parte del pueblo checo, escribió obras significativas sobre temas religiosos como su grandiosa Misa Glagolítica, pero también obras más pequeñas como su cantata El Evangelio Eterno de 1914. En ella, Janacek musicalizó un poema de Vrlichlícky sobre un comentario del Libro del Apocalipsis hecho por el místico medieval Joaquín de Fiore, quien aseguraba haber visto al Ángel del Apocalipsis predicando el Evangelio Eterno del Amor.
