Pas gati 40 vitesh, Ismail Kadare rikthen romanin qe shënjoi krijimtarinë e tij, "Dimrin e vetmisë se Madhe". I shkruar ne vitin 1971, e për tu botuar një vit me pas, romani u prit keq nga kritika zyrtare komuniste dhe nuk u lejua te publikohej. Vetëm pas një rishikimi te autorit, nen titullin e ndryshuar "Dimri i Madh" romani pa dritën e botimit ne vitin 1978. Sot, Kadare i sjell lexuesit te dikurshëm, por edhe atij te ri qe nuk e njeh këtë variant, versionin origjinal, pa ndryshime te natyrës politike por vetëm me retushe artistike. Siç shpjegon edhe botuesi shqiptar i shkrimtarit te njohur, "Dimri i Vetmisë se madhe" ka një shënim redaksional nga Kadare, ku vete ai shpjegon historinë e këtij romani kult për letërsinë shqiptare, qe duhej te bazohej ne acarimet e Shqipërisë komuniste me ish aleatet e saj. Ne kopertinën e këtij botimi, ndodhen edhe pjese nga dokumenti i komitetit qendror te Partisë se Punës, ku evidentohen arsyet se pse "Dimri" i Kadaresë nuk duhej te publikohej. Një vit me pare, shkrimtari riktheu edhe "Koncert ne fund te stinës", librin e trete te dipdikut "Koha e Grindjes", ku i dyti ishte "Dimri i Vetmisë se Madhe", ndërsa i pari mbi grindjen me jugosllavet, nuk u shkrua asnjëherë.
