A tummy tuck is an invasive procedure where excess skin is removed and the abdomen is tightened. If it is an hourglass tummy tuck, this procedure is combined with liposuction as well as fat transfer to the hip. The down time of tummy tuck is similar to liposuction, where you can expect the normal swelling and bruising. Using a girdle is one of the most effective ways of ensuring best results after liposuction. Yes, girdles can be annoying. They are tight and often times uncomfortable, but it is a necessary evil of beauty. Girdles should be worn for about 3 to 4 months after the procedure. You need to know that the customary swelling and bruising, hardness, and lumpiness of a tummy tuck are not going to be resolved within a week. Scar formation will continue as well and the healing process will progress even if you do not see it. Do note that internal scarring will also occur around the soft tissues that were surgically excised, corrected, and enhanced. There will even be some people who may need to wear a girdle for a much longer period than normal. Not only that, you are going to need to wear a girdle in different sizes. As your swelling subsides, the girdle will also need to be changed to a smaller size to provide enough compression.
