In Malaysia’s 13th general election, BN won 22 seats in Sabah, and 25 seats in Sarawak, and these 47 seats won by BN made up 35% of their total of 133 seats in Parliament.
Without Sabah and Sarawak, in Peninsular Malaysia, BN would have only won 85 seats, compared to Pakatan Rakyat’s 80 seats - a razor thin majority.
So in many ways, Sabah and Sarawak are indeed Barisan Nasional’s fixed deposits, and a strong rock on which their continued rule of Malaysia relies on.
