But the Sierra Club's Ohio chapter dropped a lawsuit seeking to require that sediment's prior removal once the Army Corps of Engineers imposed on the project conditions intended to mitigate the potential flow.
Notches being cut into the 104-year-old concrete structure — a key step toward the planned demolition of the structure — the city has started planting grass along the banks of the Sandusky River near the dam.
The notches increase the flow of water over the dam, providing an intermediate step toward the eventual complete removal of the dam.
Total demolition is expected to begin in September 2018, Frost said.
