The city of Baotou, in the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia, is on alert,... as it has reported the death of a patient from the plague.
The city's Health Commission said in a statement on Thursday,... a local resident who died of circulatory system failure on Sunday, was confirmed to have had an intestinal type of plague.
This type of plague shows symptoms like diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, and high fever.
This is the first plague death that China has reported this year.
The city has sealed off the village where the dead patient lived, and a total of 35 people have been put into quarantine.
They have all tested negative for the disease, and none of them have shown symptoms.
The city also issued a level three warning,... the second-lowest alert level on its four-level system for plague control and prevention,... on the district where the village sits, until the end of this year.
From 2009 to 2018, China had reported 26 cases and 11 deaths from the plague.
