Lyrics:

Taken in by the River

The mad man came from Central Europe with his crew
They floated down the Amazon in Peru
And the jungle began to eat them up
They brought their cameras but not their sense

The lead clashed with even the birds and insects
While the mad man claimed he’d never work with them
The monkeys swam across past the security clearance
While the lead spoke to no one listening

The pan pipes play above the mountain
While the rushing river sweeps away the wood
And the lead is angry at the entire crew
Firing wildly into the crowd with his rifle

The lead angrily yells until the mad man calms him
After the bus ride ruins the whole experience
And the sword is swinging around the crashed plane
Which is hanging by the wire of the telephone

Because they all were taken in the river

Ten years later the band reunited
This time they brought a boat to drag
The natives shrugged their shoulders
And were bought off to do the work

The lead again tried to wreck the whole place
The natives offered to sharpen their sticks for the boss
He smiled and said maybe later but not yet
We’ve got to move the boat first and need him

The lead packed up his bag to take the next trek
Saying I gotta get out of this place and soon
While the mad man tore up his ticket
I’ll kill you and then turn the gun on myself

The ship finally moved and the mad man cheered
Remembering the time he had a stone on his side
But his partner had gotten sick from
Drinking all of the water and eating native food

And you could see him float away as he had taken in by the river

So much has changed but the itch is the same
He walked about the Muslims forced into slums
Putting on a bulletproof vest to avoid the devil
While God jams away on the radio

The mad man finds a new lead with an off switch
Takes him to Mexico to run past and to the river
This is where my ancestors emerged from
And it is time for all of us to take a dip

I wanna destroy myself said the man by the rushing river
Which his friends took to and fell straight in
Their bodies not recovered at least in the scene
The actor is resting quietly on the stone

The mad man has calmed down and is considered wise
Auditoriums pack themselves to see him speak
Dictators and technological magnates sit at his feet
Even though it’s now twenty five years later
And he still finds himself taken in by the river
