Forgotten Victims – Before Bucha Was Abkhazia

Following the collapse of the USSR, the Western world mistakenly assumed that Russia no longer posed a threat to freedom. Bloody wars initiated by Russia were seen as internal ethnic conflicts and went unnoticed.

Even the invasion of Georgia in 2008 and the occupation of Crimea and parts of Eastern Ukraine were not enough to see the danger. But the 2022 invasion of Ukraine has made abundantly clear that Russia is a brutal, revisionist power that uses atrocities and genocide as war weapons to achieve its goals.

Russian war conduct has a historical pattern - what is happening now in Ukraine, happened in Georgia 30 years ago in the 1990s.

The documentary “Forgotten Victims - Before Bucha was Abkhazia” is reviving the tragic memory of Russian atrocities in Abkhazia, Georgia.

The documentary aims to give voice to those who were silenced in the euphoria following the end of the Cold War, to acknowledge their trauma, to restore historical justice and to raise awareness about the true nature of the Kremlin even without Vladimir Putin in power.
