Trump film trade war looms over Cannes
"I think it's the fear of those tariffs that maybe stopped some buyers and filmmakers from showing up," says a producer in the market at the Cannes Film Festival as US president Trump made himself one of the main talking points of the festival after announcing on May 5 that he wanted 100-percent tariffs on movies "produced in foreign lands.” "Of course it will affect the selling of Chinese movies to American market," says the director of the China Film Foundation, amid fears that these tariffs "wouldn't be good for the industry," according to a US film commissioner.
