Mesut Aytunca was born in Istanbul in 1944. After leaving the third year of the Faculty of Medicine, he entered the Journalism High School and graduated from there. He started music by playing bass guitar in the Gökçen Kaynatan orchestra. He left this orchestra and formed his own band with Erol Bilem.

This band, with bassist Aytunca as the guitarist and guitarist Bilem as the bassist, was called Silhouettes. The band's first drummer, who had previously accompanied Bilgesu Duru (Erenus) on the radio, was Salim Dündar from the Şerif Yüzbaşıoğlu Orchestra. The band, which took the name Silhouettes, took this name because they showed themselves as silhouettes only with the Shadows-style guitar style they applied in the early stages and the light effects on stage. The band's first lineup after gaining an identity consisted of Mesut Aytunca on lead guitar, Berç Kürkçü on bass guitar, Erol Bilem on rhythm guitar, Koray Yılmaz on drums and Muzaffer Güler on vocals. After winning third place with "Üsküdar" in the folk arrangement category at the 3rd Boğaziçi Festival, the group participated in the first Golden Microphone Competition. They became finalists in this competition with "Kaşık Havası". In the competition where a total of 7,776 votes were cast, Yıldırım Gürses came first with 1985 votes, Mavi Işıklar came second with 1407 votes and Silüetler came third with 1188 votes, just like in the 3rd Boğaziçi Festival. As a result of this competition, they released their first 45's single "Kaşık Havası - Sis".

In the fall of 1965, the lineup of Silüetler also included vocalists who had broken away from Gökçen Kaynatan. During this period when Erol Bilem took over the bass, Göktuğ Vensürel was on guitar, Sadık Bütünley and Sabi Halevi were on vocals.

The folk songs Aytunca performed with his guitar in the style of Hank Marvin symbolized the youth groups breaking away from adolescence, finding their identities and becoming as conscious about the music they were making as their orchestra brothers.

In 1966, Lorke participated in the Golden Microphone competition with a harsh arrangement of the folk song Shadows. 13,411 votes were cast in 12 concerts and Siletler came in first with 4,563 votes, Mavi Işıklar came in second with 2,850 votes and Selçuk Alagöz came in third with 2,382 votes. The first place team had the following lineup: Mesut Aytunca solo guitar, Erol Bilem bass, Rasim Ulusman (who started with Volkanlar in 1964, other members of Volkanlar were Taner Öngür and Tuncer Dürüm) rhythm guitar and Aydın Daruga drums. Sadık Bütünley also performed as a soloist in the group.

1967 was another eventful year for Siletler. The new members of the group, Murat Ses and Aziz Azmet from Meteorlar, joined the group as organists and rhythm guitarists, while solo guitarist Mesut Aytunca and drummer Aydın Daruga remained the constant members of the group. With this line-up, Silüetler released their first self-t
