CHAOTIC MOMENT WHEN A YOUNG SEA LION CHARGES FAMILY ON BEACH

A beach walk took an unexpected turn when a large sea lion appeared to step in when a young sea lion from charging across the sand, knocking over a family in the process.
The moment was filmed by Blair Eagle, from Victoria, Australia, during a family outing to Tunnel Beach in Dunedin.
Blair had been filming after noticing a large male sea lion emerge from the water.
As the juvenile attempted to escape a much larger male during mating behaviour, she ran straight through the family’s path.
Seconds later, the male moved in, placing himself between the people and the fleeing sea lion, effectively stopping the situation from escalating.
The pair later appear to check in on each other, briefly grooming one another after the younger sea lion settles down.
Blair Eagle said: “The little juvenile female sea lion raced toward the water because she didn’t want to be mated with by the large male.
“She was aggressive toward the male sea lion, not the humans.”
One viewer said: “That little chick is so lucky the big one understood there were kids."
