A young traveller has revealed the horrifying discovery she made after realising a flesh-eating parasite destroyed her eyesight in one eye.
Vivian Nosovitsky, 21, a holistic coach from Florida, USA, who has been living abroad for the past three years, says her life was turned upside down after a trip to Mexico ended in agony.
The influencer admitted she didn’t properly care for her contact lenses — a mistake that led to a parasite infecting her eye in what she described as an “extremely painful” ordeal.
Vivian said the terrifying experience has completely changed her day-to-day life, impacting both her physical and mental health.
"I lost vision in my right eye from a parasite that's eating my eye away.
“You never really know who it can happen to until it’s you.
“This is the most painful thing I have ever experienced.”
Despite the horror diagnosis, Vivian says medication and specialist advice have helped her slowly regain strength as she focuses on recovery.
After the initial panic she discovered that she developed acanthamoeba keratitis, a rare but serious infection caused by a microscopic parasite that can eat away at the cornea and even lead to blindness.
The 21-year-old is now urging others to stay vigilant with eye hygiene — reminding fans that a small mistake can lead to devastating consequences.
Shocked viewers quickly flooded her with messages of support after hearing her story.
One wrote: “Oh Viv!! I hope this recovers fast — I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this!”
Another added: “Praying for you girl. I know it feels impossible but don’t lose hope. Anything is possible."
