The Dalton Gang was a notorious group of American outlaws active during the late 19th century in the Old West. Originally serving as lawmen, brothers Bob, Grat, and Emmett Dalton turned to a life of crime, forming a gang that specialized in train and bank robberies across Kansas and the Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma).
Their boldest and most infamous attempt came in 1892 in Coffeyville, Kansas, where they tried to rob two banks simultaneously. The plan quickly unraveled when townspeople recognized the gang members and armed themselves. A fierce gunfight broke out in the streets, resulting in the deaths of most of the gang. Emmett Dalton was the only survivor, later serving time in prison before eventually being released.
The Dalton Gang’s dramatic downfall became one of the most legendary stories of the American Wild West, symbolizing both the daring and the danger of outlaw life on the frontier.
