Authorities in France have placed 78 of the country’s 101 departments on alert following heavy rainfall that has saturated the soil and raised the risk of severe flooding. According to the Hydrology and Forecasting Service, three departments remain on red alert and 14 on orange alert, while new rainfall recorded overnight is expected to continue throughout the week, spreading the risk further. Officials announced that monitoring will intensify in the coming days, particularly in western regions where water levels are rising.
