Resident Evil is one of the most iconic franchises in gaming history, but it’s also one of the most divisive. Over the years, the series has shifted from pure survival horror to action-heavy spectacle and then back again, reinventing itself multiple times along the way. In this video, I rank every mainline Resident Evil game I’ve personally played, based on how they feel, how they hold up, and how well they represent what Resident Evil is supposed to be.
This ranking focuses on the original versions of the games rather than modern remakes, and it does not include Resident Evil Village, which I haven’t played yet. This isn’t meant to be the definitive ranking—just an honest take from a longtime fan who’s experienced multiple eras of the franchise.
Whether you grew up with tank controls, over-the-shoulder action, or first-person horror, chances are your list looks very different from mine—and that’s part of what makes Resident Evil such a fascinating series to talk about.
