Garuda — Garuda 1976 (UK, Jazz Rock-Fusion)
The only album by the British jazz collective led by Toni Campo, who was born in Batavia, the capital of the Netherlands Indies on the island of Java (now Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia), and left for Europe as a teenager. Garuda is the mount of the god Vishnu in Hinduism, a serpent-fighter. Garuda is a national symbol and is depicted on the coats of arms of Indonesia and Thailand. Toni Campo died in 2007.This is a deservedly obscure British jazz record from 1976. The only connection with Indonesia is the album title, a reference ti the country's national symbol, since adopted as the name of the national airline.
