Abandoned balikbayan boxes delivered in Cebu
At least 13,800 abandoned balikbayan boxes have been delivered in Cebu as part of the government’s nationwide effort to return shipments left behind by freight forwarders, officials said during a distribution activity at the Port of Cebu. The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Department of Finance (DOF) reported that the deliveries form part of the 25,818 boxes released nationwide, following the directive to accelerate the return of packages sent by overseas Filipino workers. During the distribution, Secretary Frederick Go said the government will continue working with agencies to ensure abandoned boxes were returned to families and that OFWs were protected from abusive freight forwarders.
