Indian Railways has announced a major overhaul of its ticket cancellation and refund policy, effective from April 2026. The new rules introduce stricter slabs for refunds, where passengers could lose up to 50% of their fare if they cancel within 24 to 8 hours of departure. Crucially, the refund window has been closed to 8 hours prior to the journey, replacing the earlier 4-hour rule.
