Displaced families claim officials rejected their property documents without review. Those affected now shelter in makeshift huts, vulnerable to flooding, facing severe food shortages and destitution. Community protests have temporarily halted some land seizures, yet eviction campaigns persist across Assam.
Political candidates canvassing the area promise support in exchange for votes, whilst core issues of homelessness, unemployment and displacement remain largely absent from election debates.
