Oracle has reportedly begun one of the biggest layoffs in its history, with thousands of employees losing their jobs as the company shifts its focus toward artificial intelligence.
Workers across the United States, India, Canada, Mexico, and other regions received sudden termination emails early in the morning, informing them that their roles had been eliminated as part of a “broader organisational change.” Reports suggest the cuts could impact up to 30,000 employees globally, including around 12,000 in India alone.
The surprising move comes despite Oracle recently reporting strong financial results, with revenue rising 22 percent. However, the tech giant is now aggressively investing in AI infrastructure, including massive data centers and automation systems designed to handle tasks that once required teams of engineers.
Analysts believe cutting thousands of roles could free up billions of dollars to fund Oracle’s AI expansion as demand for AI computing power continues to surge worldwide.
The layoffs highlight a growing trend across the tech industry: companies are rapidly restructuring to prioritize artificial intelligence, raising new questions about the future of human jobs in the age of AI.
