The Corpse Vanishes (1942) is an American mystery‑horror film directed by Wallace Fox and starring Bela Lugosi. The story follows a mad scientist, Dr. Lorenz, who sends brides poisonous orchids that place them in a death‑like trance. He then steals their bodies to extract glandular fluids, which he uses to preserve the youth of his aging wife.
A determined journalist begins investigating the strange bridal disappearances, eventually uncovering Lorenz’s sinister experiments and the grotesque family that assists him. The film was produced and distributed by Monogram Pictures, a studio known for low‑budget genre films, and later reissued in 1949.
