Rise in Illegal Tourist Accommodations in Taiwan Prompts Crackdown

Travelers to Taiwan are being urged to verify their accommodation after a new report found nearly 1,200 illegal hotels operating in the first quarter of 2026. Most unlicensed units are short-term rentals in Taipei, Taichung and Yilan.
