DOST pushes electric jeepney conversion as fuel costs rise
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is pushing to convert traditional jeepneys to electric-powered jeepneys, noting that the shift would be both environmentally sustainable and cost-efficient for drivers. In an interview with _The Manila Times_ on April 17, 2026, DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said conversion to electric vehicles should be seen 'positively' but acknowledged that Filipinos’ cultural attachment to traditional jeepneys may pose a challenge.
