Lawmaker renews push to integrate nuclear power in PH

A renewed push to integrate nuclear power in the country is presented in Cebu City on during a media roundtable on a proposed nuclear energy program April 23, 2026. Pangasinan 2nd District Rep. Mark Cojuangco called for a shift toward nuclear energy amid rising electricity demand and continued dependence on imported fuel. Cojuangco said nuclear energy could lower electricity costs to about P5.00 per kilowatt-hour, compared with Meralco’s current rate of P13.82 per kWh. He said the reduction could ease household expenses by allowing families to allocate more of their budget to other needs. Advocacy group Alpas Pinas also participated in the session.
